TEXT: Mark 10:17-22.
Sub: Wrong Choice.

Intro: 1) Tell the story.
2) Benefits to be gained from it. 2 Tim 3: 16,17.

1. A GOOD APPROACH. Vs 17b

A. He was humble.
B. There was urgency in His question.
C. He acknowledged Christ’s exalted position.

11.A GOOD QUESTION. Vs 17c.

A. He acknowledged an afterlife.
B. He acknowledged the necessity of preparing for the afterlife. Amos 4;12b
C. He was mixed up about the afterlife because he said…
  a. what must I do?  Works?
  b. That I may inherit… not because of your efforts or works.

111. A GOOD RESPONSE. Vss 18-20.

A. The Lord verified His deity and sinlesness.
B. The Lord appealed to his pride by opening the door for him (the young man) to show off.
  a. He pointed to the moral laws of God. (6 commandments)
  b. Jesus never talked to him about real love for God.
C. The young man’s pride is now revealed.

1V. A GOOD REQUEST. Vs 21.

A. The Lord loved him. ( not without exception but without distinction)
  a. Jesus in His omniscience knew the response beforehand but still made the request. Vs 21.
  b. The young man, by refusing, is taking himself to hell.

V. A WRONG CHOICE. Vs22.

A. His works did not give him the right heart.
B. His morality did not give him the right heart.
C. The choice that he made, because of his unconverted heart, led him to hell.

CONC: 1) Consider your choices in life.
2) This one deals with eternity.
