SUB: Evidences of the New Birth.
Text: 1 John 5:13.

Intro: 1) The evils of high pressure eveangelism.
     a. Usurping the work of The Holy Spirit.
     b. Filling the church with unsaved.
     c. Carnal people perform carnal deeds.
        2) Sometimes true christians are called also.
     a. God does use means and one of them is evangelism.
     b. The true believer does sometimes find themselves in sin and doubt creeps in.
         3) This sermon is to point out evidences that are seen in one born again.
         4) The purpose is that the listeners can determine for themselves whether they are saved or not.

1. GENUINE TRUST IN CHRIST ALONE FOR SALVATION. As long as a person is looking to anything other than Christ for salvation, that person is not saved.

A. Rom 4:5 Faith is counted for righteousness. It is not a work performed for righteousness,  but the means by which God imputes the righteousness of Christ upon the sinner.
B. This results in "repentance from dead works" ( things done in the hope that it will earn your salvation) Heb 6:1.

11. THE WITNESS AND INDWELLING PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

A. He lives in the believer and confirms your position in Christ. Rom 8:16.
B. He leads, thereby executing ruling power in the believer. Rom 8:14.

111. READINESS TO ACCEPT THE WORD OF GOD.

A. John 8:47.
  i) God's people accept God's word.
  ii) The unsaved does not.

1V. CONSCIOUSNESS OF SIN.

A. 1 Tim 1:15. " ...of whom I am chief"  The more one gets into the light, the more he sees his imperfections.
B. Rom 7: 14-25. The new nature recognizes the presence of sins in the body.
C. The lack of recogition of the indwelling sin nature is evidence that one needs to be saved.

V. LOVE OF GOD AND RIGHTEOUSNESS.

A. John 8:42a. " If God were your Father, you would love me."
B. 1 John 4:19..." we love Him..."
C. Rom 7:22. One will delight in the law of God and observe it.
D. 11 Cor 5:17. "...Old things are passed away and all things are become new."

VI. A LIFE THAT IS GENERALLY OBEDIENT 

A. John 14: 21-24
B. Rom 6:14. " ...Sin shall not have dominion over you."

V11. PROGRESSIVE PURIFICATION.

A. 1 John 3:3. The believer in this life does not attain sinless perfection but he always is at war with his own sins. He is constantly fighting the power of sin in his life.

V111. LOVE OF OTHER BELIEVERS.

A. 1 John 3:14.
B. This is evidenced by fellowshipping with each other. Heb 10:25.

1X. PATIENCE CONTINUANCE TO THE END.

A. Matt 10:22... Confirms that the believer endures to the end.
B. Phil 1:6. God continues to perform the good work in the believer,  resulting in Preservation and perseverance.

CONCL: 1) Are you born again? Do these evidences mentioned here manifests in your life?
               2) If they are not seen, have you consideded the possibility that you might be deceived into believing you are saved?
               3) A tree is known by its fruits.
