SUB: THE CEASING OF THE GODLY MAN. TEXT PSALM 12:1. Intro: 1) A divinely inspired prophecy by David. 2) The times in which we live. 1Tim 4:1,2. i) Some shall depart from the faith. The "faith" is a body of doctrines that will stand together or fall together. Upon the promises of God, we know that there will always be sound NT Baptist Churches to maintain the pure Word of life. ii) They shall give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. a. Making spiritual decisions based upon feelings of "right or wrong" rather than the pure Word of God.(Can you use a deceitful heart to make Godly decisions?) b. Taking your spiritual beliefs from the many false prophets and religious leaders. iii) Without any remorse, pretending to be godly in spite of their non-conformity to the requirements of the Word of God. "consciences seared with a hot iron" No guilt, no remorse, no shame whatever. 3) So we shout like David, "Help Lord, for the godly man ceaseth". APOSTASY. 1. THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN APOSTASY. Sometimes we may think it is unique to this age but it's not. A. What is Apostasy? The word "apostasy" means...a standing away from...in the sense of a falling away, a withdrawal, or defection from the truth. In classical greek, the word was used of a revolt staged by a military commander. B. Apostasy began in the garden of Eden. Gen 2:16,17. i) God set His Word of Command. ii) He attached the penalty to it. iii) Apostasy began with the corruption of the word. Corruption instigated by the Devil, with the full co-operation of Eve. C. When David cried, "Help O Lord...." It was a prophecy very relevant to this day. 11. APOSTASY TODAY. The faith sometimes called "the Apostles Doctrine" or 'the faith once delivered to the saints" are a compendium of Christian Doctrines that were inspired by the Holy Spirit of God and man has no right to change nor even attempt to change it. Among these are teachings that millions have given their lives for and are sometimes called the Doctrines of Grace and the Doctrine of the Church. A. The Doctrines of Grace. i) Total Depravity. ii) Unconditional Election. iii) Limited Atonement. iv) Irresistable Grace v) Perseverance and Preservation of the Saints. B. The Doctrine of the Church. i) Local, visible body of scripturally baptized believers covenanting to carry out the teachings from the Word of God ii) This involves obedience to the Great commission to make disciples and carry out the ordinances, Baptism and the Lord's Supper. iii) The various spheres of operation by the man and the woman in the church. C. Today, many who call themselves "Baptists" have gone into apostasy. i) The decline was not an instantaneous happening and as such was not even noticed by those who apostasized. ii) The decline is noticed by others. 111. WHAT CAUSES APOSTASY? It begins with faithlessness. Non conformity to the Word of God. Rom 12: 2. Sinfulness. A. Failure to believe the Word of God. e.g. Eve. B. Failure to practice the Word of God. e.g. 'testimonies and evidence" C. Domineering Deacons sometimes with dictatorial wives. D. Resulting in weak Pastors who are pressured to produce, sometimes through unscriptural measures. E. The result is apostasy. 1V. HOW NOT TO FALL INTO APOSTASY. Today an enormous amount of effort is being put into solving physical problems but practically no effort is being made as to spiritual maladies. Get back to Basics! A. Within the homes. Remember the home is the basic unit of society. Apostasy begins on a personal basis and then spreads out. e.g First Eve then her husband. i) Get back to God's order. Eph 5:22-26. 6:1. ii) Fathers need to lead their family in Bible Study. Deut 6:4-7. B. Within the church i) Watch yourselves, examine your adherence to the doctrines and follow them and it will benefit you and others. 1 Tim 4:16. ii) Flee things that will cause internal conflicts. 1 Tim 6:11. iii) Fight the good fight of faith. 1 Tim 6:12. iv) Be forgiving and helpful to one another. Matt 6:14. Gal 6:1 CONCL: Apostasy is all round us; are we going to allow the pressure of this life be it church, or otherwise,to gradually take us on a downhill slide? Or will we stand faithful to the cause of the One Who gave His all for us. We are more than conquerors ... Rom 8:37. Stand faithful.. Rev 2:10 |
