SUB: How about some living water?
Text. John 4: 1-30.
Intro: 1) An instance where Jesus went out of His way to help someone.
2) Tell of the story.
1.DISCIPLES ARE MADE NOT BORN.
A. I am a born christian....Ps 51:5. Rom 5:12.
B. I need to be a born again person. John 3:5.
11 TO MAKE ANOTHER DISCIPLE, JESUS WENT OUT OF HIS WAY.
A. The animosity between the Jews and the Samaritans began about 7 hundred years before because of interracial marriages between the Samaritans and the Assyrians.
B. There also differences in their belief about the place God had ordained for His appointed place of worship. Mt Gerizim and Jerusalem.
111.THE LORD PREACHING TO ONE PERSON. Not a multitude as he usually preached to but one solitary person, stressing the importance of the single soul.
A. The time was noon. He was thirsty and weary but He was concerned for that one soul.
B. He initiated the conversation. vs 7.
C. Her response was not a polite one. vs9.
i) they had moral differences.
ii) they had religious differences.
D. Jesus did not reply similarly but instructed her in divine things. vs 10.
i) He hints to her what she should know..about the gift of God Rom 6:23.
ii) He hopes concerning her, what she would have done if she had known .
iii) He spoke of something strange..Living Water...The Holy Spirit of God John 7:37-39.
E. She did not understand spiritual things..vss 11,12.
F.Jesus said if she had the Living Water, she will never thirst again. vs 14.
i) The Living Water will be a well spring continuosly flowing. The Spirit of God in the believer.....
Rom 8:9. John 14:17, and also never leaving the believer. Eph 4:30.
G. Her response...Give me that water. vs15.
1V HER CHARACTER BROUGHT OUT.
A. She was a very immoral woman. vs 16 - 18..
B. Her apparent knowledge of religious things was wrong. vs 19 -20.
C. Jesus explains to her truth, It's not where but how worship is done. vss 21 -24.
i) acceptable worship to God is what is done in Spirit and in Truth.
V.THE WOMAN'S CONFESSION OF CHRIST AS THE MESSIAH. vss26 -29.
A. She knew of the Messiah, now she knows the Messiah.
B. When she got to know the Messiah, she could not help but shout it out.
CONCL: 1) You perhaps like this woman have some knowledge of the Messiah but have never known Him as the source of your Living Water. He is the Way, He is the Truth, And He is the life.. The only source of Living Water.
2) Christ is here today speaking of this Living Water, the Spirit of God, available to you today, to reside and stay in you, comfort you, convict you, strengthen you, teach you, bless you, fill you and seal you till that day.
APP: Do you want Him? Why not trust Him this morning as Savior and Lord. The way to the Spirit is through the Messiah. If you have Christ, the Messiah, you have the Living Water.
