Subject: DOCTRINES..are they important or not? Text: 2Tim 3:16,17. Intro: i) the time required to move away from sound doctrine....one generation. eg: after Joseph had been lifted to high prominence in Egypt, the pharoah who came after unleashed persecution on the Israelites. ii) Times have passed and doctrines have changed but has the word of God, which is the basis of our doctrines, changed? No! The word has not changed; so why should our doctrines change. iii) One writer says.." Deep things of God as set here are not seen by the natural mind and are seldom seen by the christian who is superficial in study; the ponderous mass of the doctrines of our faith, like the submerged two thirds of an iceberg, is below the surface of popular thought and appreciation" D.F.Sebastien. iv) Truth crushed to earth will rise again, but only as it is known by men who have the courage and conviction to proclaim it. 1WHAT ARE DOCTRINES? Simply put, doctrines are teachings; it does go much deeper than that though. A. Doctrines are that which determines whether we are truly saved or not. i) The salvation that is generally being offered to people today is not true salvation. Salvation is not offered, according to Biblical doctrine, but it is conferred. 2Thess 2:13,14. Titus 3:5. Rom 6:23 B. Doctrines are that which determines whether we have been truly baptized or not. i)The baptism generally taught today is not the right baptism. There is one right kind of baptism( Eph 4:5). That kind requires four prerequisites..salvation of the candidate(Acts 2:41), proper mode (Matt 28:19), proper design (Rom 4:1-6),and very important..the right administrator..The true church Matt 28:18-20. Authority to baptise given to the church. C. Doctrines are that which teaches us to properly worship God. Today's worship is so different from what is taught in the Bible. i) Where is the decency and order today? 1 Cor 14:40. ii)Everyone is seeking the spirit but nobody's particular about the truth Jonh 4:24 11.WHERE DO WE FIND THESE DOCTRINES PREACHED AND PRACTICED TODAY? Can we find them in every "church?" There are true churches and there are "churches". There's a pattern that's found in the churches of the New Testament. They taught.. A.Salvation is only of grace through faith and faith is a gift from God. Eph 2:8,9. B.They practiced proper baptism and closed communion. Acts 8:36-38, 1 Cor 11:18,20,33. 111. CAN CHURCHES LIKE THESE BE FOUND TODAY? Jesus promised the perpetuity of the kind of church that He had started. Matt 16:18. Upon His promise, we believe that there are churches like these and they are generally known by the name Baptist. A."Baptist "is not a denominational name but a name that was given in scorn. Just like the name, christian, the name Baptist was given in scorn. They were called "anabaptist" which means "rebaptisers"; the prefix "ana" was later dropped and they were called "baptists" B.Not every church that's called "Baptist" are truly "Baptist" A true church is identified by it's preaching and practices. Many "Baptist" churches today are not worthy of wearing that name. Our forefathers have died by the millions for these New Testament teachings and practices and today 'Baptist" churches are radiculing these Bible based teachings;O that they should have the decency to drop the name "Baptist" from their churches. CONCLUSION: Are doctrines really important? I think they are. What you believe makes you who you are; that's why it's so important to learn the right teachings, to practice the right teachings. May the Lord guide you into a truly Bible believing and practicing church that you may grow in grace and in knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. APPLICATION; i) Christian friend, are you one of those who do not see the importance of learning and practicing sound doctrine? if so, you have been dishonoring the Lord who told us "you do err, not knowing the scriptures" Why not decide to search the scriptures and learn of Christ. ii) Dear friend, if you are not saved, you cannot learn sound doctrine for they are taught by the Spirit of God, you must first be saved. Jesus died so that you can live; live not in hell but in heaven . Will you trust His finished work on Calvary's cross. Will you believe that He died to save YOU FROM THE PENALTY OF YOUR SIN. |
