Sub: Persecution causes presentation.
Text: Acts 8: 4.
Intro: 1) Stephen just killed for preaching. vss 1-2.
2) Religious zeal can be hateful rather than helpful. vs 3.
1. The gospel presented by Phillip. vs 5.
A. Acts 1:8. They were only in Jerusalem until persecution caused him to go to Samaria.
B. He preached Christ.
11. Preaching of Christ brought unity and joy. vss 6-8.
A. United, they listened.
B. They observed the miracles. Note "many".
C. They experienced joy. Neh 8:10.
111. Misunderstanding ungodliness for Godliness. vss 9-24.
A. Simon the sorcerer. "the great one", a professor. vs 9.
B. Their misunderstanding of Simon's power. vs 10- 11.
C. God saved in the midst of the deception. vs 12.
D. They profession was followed by action. "baptized". vs 12.
E. A false profession followed by a false baptism. vs 13. 18-24.
1V. The Word continued to be preached. vs 25.
A. In fulfilment of the command, the word continued to be preached in Jerusalem and Samaria.
B. Later, they will go to the uttermost parts of the earth.
Concl: 1) The word spread because of persecution.
2) Not all were saved but the work continued.
3) Be careful of attributing the devil's work to God.
