Sub: Salvation Text: 11 Tim 2:15
Intro: 1) Our exposure to the Word of God through churches, tracts, etc. 2) A simple definition of Salvation.: Deliverance from the penalty, the power, and ultimately, the presence of sin. 3) It is the work of God alone, on behalf of sinful man. Jonah says... "Salvation is of the Lord". Jonah 2: 9.
1. EVERY ASPECT OF SALVATION IS OF GOD.
A. It is a Sovereign work of God on behalf of a totally helpless sinner. God purposed, purchased and appropiates salvation in the behalf of His Elect. It is solely a work of God; not a co-operative effort between God and man.
B. The earnest student of scripture will seek everywhere to find scriptures that indicates that God co-operates with man in his salvation in vain. None exists. God's salvation is clearly seen in 1 Pet 1: 2-5.
C. Before the world ever came into being, the Triune God had entered into a covenant of grace between the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. 1) He planned salvation only for the Elect. Eph 1: 4,5. Acts 13:48, 2 Thess 2:13. 11) 11) The Son agreed to be Surety for these only. Matt 20:28. Matt 1:21. Mark 10:45. 111) The Holy Spirit agreed to call these elect and blood bought ones through his quickening power in regeneration. John 6:63. Eph 2: 1,5. John 3: 6, 8.
11. MAN'S INPUT IN HIS SALVATION. It really is quite contrary to what most of today's christianity preaches and believes. Does this mean that the crowd is right? Certainly not!
A. Man is totally passive in God's Decree of salvation. e.g. A baby in its natural birth is totally passive, so too is the spiritual birth. B. The Election by God is purely of His own Free Will, not man's free will. Eph 1:4,5.
C. Every one of the Elect will be saved through Christ Jesus. John 6:37-39.
111. MAN'S SPIRITUAL CONDITION ESTABLISHES THE NEED FOR ONLY GOD'S INPUT IN MAN'S SALVATION.
A. The Holy Spirit must quicken the spiritually dead man in salvation and grace him with the gifts of repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. 1) Man is spiritually dead Eph 2:1. 11) Man is incapable of comprehending spiritual things. 1 Cor 2:14 111) Man is unwilling to come to Christ. John 3: 19,20. 1V) Man is unable to come to Christ of his own will John 6:44. V) The natural cannot ever please God Rom 8:7,8. V1) The natural man cannot rise above his own sinful nature and of himself choose Jesus Christ. Jer 17:9. 13:23.
1V) GOD'S METHOD IN SALVATION.
A. The Holy Spirit gives new life. John 3: 6-8; 6:63;
B. It is God's Will and not man's will that determines salvation. John 1:13. Rom 9: 15,16. James 1:17,18. 1 Pet 1:23
C. Salvation is purely of God's grace. Eph 2: 8-10.
CONCL: 1) What of today's salvation offered by modernist preachers? It is purely of Satanic origin for it makes man the God of his "salvation". 2) What of what I just wrote? It gives God all the glory for my salvation and yours too if you are saved.. 3) What of my responsibility to repent of my sins? You only become really conscious of your sins when the Holy Spirit gives you new life.
APP: Jesus said... "All that the Father hath given to me, shall come to me and him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast out." John 6:37. Has the Holy Spirit convicted you of sin? then trust Him as your Savior.
